Due to low submissions, this project has been cancelled.

We would like to thank those who submitted entries, and apologize for any inconvenience this has caused.

It would be unfair to continue to delay this project further.

Update on the status of the encyclopedia

We are still working at what is turning into a massive and great project. We hope to have some more concrete information on publication date and revisions in the not too distant future. Stay in touch with this blog for updates.

We have had massive interest, now we have to read the entries and edit them, then send them to the editors at Diversion Press to approve the project. It will take time.

Even with the great interest, we still have almost half of the headword list to be filled (8 pages of the 20 page list). So if you want to write for this project just send an email with headword list in the subject line.

We may also need additional editorial support and peer review and fact checking.

If you are sending entries or revising them, please keep this in mind. Your entry should reflect the most recent information---obviously this might change more for an event from 2001-2010 than say for an event from 1960-1969.

Be sure to follow the guidelines and include the appropriate type and number of sources, the proper in-text citation, and the see also words as listed on the guidelines that were sent or will be sent if you are a new contributor.

We look forward to working with you and to what we know will be a wonderful and important volume.

Thank you for all of your help!

Entry length information

Diversion Press invites submissions for inclusion in our upcoming Encyclopedia of Global Terrorism and the War on Terror. We seek contributions from academics from all backgrounds for this interdisciplinary work. Authors are invited to submit up to 6 entries. Each entry should be between 500 and 1000 words. Certain entries (those on entire nations) will run from 1000 to 3000 words. The format is explained in more detail in our guidelines.

Once entries are assigned to authors, they should be submitted to us in 6 weeks. For an updated word list and guidelines please e-mail terrorismencyclopedia@diversionpress.com with "word list" in the subject line. The anticipated publication date is Winter 2009/2010. An overview of the encyclopedia

The focus of the Encyclopedia is to provide detailed entries describing both domestic and international terrorist events throughout the 20th and the 21st centuries. The culmination point of the work is to discuss the War on Terror, in all of its aspects, and the nations that are involved in this effort. The work is an interdisciplinary work as well, with entries concerning history, political science, biology, chemistry, and agriculture, and contributors range from professors, officers in the Armed Forces of the U.S. and elsewhere, and political officials in the U.S. State and Defense Department, and foreign officials. We already have several hundred entries being written by scholars within and outside of the U.S. Ph.D. students, advanced graduate students, or civilian or military experts can also contribute.
